mainen: no, it will work if you live close to a station that sells CNG. But you can have a storage tank in your backyard and that can be filled w/ either CNG or LPG.

Won't this only work for people who live near a natural gas pipeline? The only other way to obtain the natural gas is to have a storage tank and have it trucked out to them.

55mpg: you don't have to keep it in your house. You can always have an external storage tank.

A compressor at $500 sounds a lot better than the $2000-$4000 compressors of a year ago. Hopefully, this price involves only private investment and public funds. Enough of the taxpayer-funded grants, loans and tax-credits.

At-Home Refueling with compressed natural gas (CNG)? $500 for the refill unit sounds like a good price, add to that the cost of installation too. Honda has the Civic GX, a natural gas fuel vehicle. Honda had a refill kit for the home natural gas pipeline and you could refill it up at home but the refill kit from Honda was very expensive, much more than $500, it's now been discontinued. Honda also offers a $3,000 gas card with the purchase of a GX vehicle. The mpg will Not be as good as gasoline, less BTU's and not as much energy as gasoline or diesel fuel. The full article shows a vehicle refueling in the garage, there should be ADEQUATE VENTILATION provided in an enclosed space when this is happening! Add solar panels and wind turbines on the house roof to recharge the battery on that EV or Inbred some people may have. As more and more vehicles are built to use natural gas OR converted over to natural gas, more natural gas will be used and the price will go up, just like the morning sun. Don't expect natural gas to stay low for very long, the trend for all fuel prices is always up and up more! It does Not matter if you have to heat your house with it either, higher natural gas prices coming. An article on here said that less natural gas is being produced because there is NO profit to keep drilling and producing natural gas. Big Oil and Big Gas exports fuel and natural gas to other countries that will pay more for it, much more than here. There will be NO price reduction or cheaper prices for fuel or natural gas IN the US, so it does NOT matter how much crude oil or natural gas is produced. If you are traveling, know where your natural gas refill stations are and plan according. There are many online sites that have CNG refill stations located across the US for people that have to refill their CNG vehicles. Plan your trip with those stations on the route. Whatever the size or shape of the vehicle, vehicle manufactures Produce and the population ‘Drives’ vehicles with high MPG, are very safe, reliable, have a ‘reasonable’ cost and a good ‘value’ for the money. The price of fuel at the pump is too high! XII/XXII/MMXII!

Ralph Nader and the safety nazis will stop this because it can't be guaranteed to be safe it a (non-union) non-professional handles this hazardous material. The Enviros will stop this because a (non-union) non-professional may allow some gas to leak into the atmosphere and harm the environment.

Good plan, now we can set up our own station and sell to others when they require a fill up.

That could solve some of infrastructure dilemma for people who want to consider getting a CNG vehicle, but there still needs to be CNG filling stations along major highways between cities. Could you take a CNG vehicle to Yellowstone National Park and find ways to refuel along the way? When the answer to that is "yes" I'll consider a CNG vehicle.

Still doesn't explain why fleets aren't converting to CNG when they can refuel in the same place each day (either at their home base or a local CNG fuel center).

Everyone needs a complete gas station in their garage, don't they? And when we're traveling and need more fuel (because VERY few places will fill your car with CNG), we can just stop at someone else's garage, I guess! As for how the govt will collect road use taxes... think "OnStar". Ford has their version incorporated in Sync, too. Don't know about the others. One of these days, they'll just send you a quarterly bill. Just don't expect gasoline prices to go down when that happens: they won't!
